US network operator Verizon discontinues home installations due to Corona Crisis

Because of the corona virus, Verizon apparently no longer sends technicians home to the customer.

Verizon has canceled many landline access installations and repairs with the Fios network during the pandemic, according to US media. Some customers therefore get appointments in November when they try to book an installation.

In the Verizon FAQ it said on Monday, according to a report from Ars Technica: "At present, our technicians cannot enter your home or business, to carry out new services to install or repair work".

Verizon amended the text: "Our household installation work is reduced to critical requirements to ensure the safety of our employees and customers, and to reduce the spread of COVID-19." However, Verizon's official support account on Twitter further informs customers that due to the pandemic, "our technicians will not be able to enter your home to install new services or perform repairs".

Verizon Fios is the operator's fiber-optic network, which was launched in 2004 and offers not only high-speed Internet, but also television programs and telephony. Verizon Wireless is also the second largest mobile operator in the United States after AT&T.

In Germany, network operators such as Deutsche Telekom and Tele Columbus have declared that they will continue to send technicians to households as operators of critical infrastructure. 6,000 Telekom service technicians come to customers' homes.

According to the information, all employees who are in contact with customers and people outside have disposable gloves, face masks, covers for the shoes and disinfectants. The service technicians are instructed to comply with the distance rules.
